The newest member of the Galaxy Tab family, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) is the first slate from the company to binge on Ice Cream Sandwich. The 3G and Wi-Fi variants of the tablet will initially be launched in the UK and is slated to go globetrotting next month.

Besides an intuitive user interface, the latest Android platform is designed to ensure swift performance and includes features like Face Unlock. Fueled by a 1GHz dual core processor and 1GB RAM, the 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 offers a multi-touch real estate of 7 inches. This WSVGA TFT display featuring the TouchWiz UI, renders visuals in 1024 x 600p resolution. The rear facing 3MP camera is accompanied by a VGA front facing webcam for video calling purposes.

“Two years ago, Samsung Galaxy Tab began to offer customers more possibilities on the go. Since then, Samsung has actively enhanced our tablet line-up with several tablets in different sizes. The new Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) will provide people with delighted multimedia experience and allow efficient communication,” stated JK Shin, President of IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics.

The tab comes in configurations of 8GB, 16GB and 32GB and extends support to a microSD card of up to 32GB capacity. A sequel to the previously released 7-inch tablet from Samsung, it measures 193.7 x 122.4 x 10.5 millimeters. Complete with an accelerometer, digital compass and light sensor, the slate draws power from a standard 4,000mAh lithium-ion battery.

This multimedia-ready slab can play back various audio and video formats including MP3, WMV, FLV, MP3, AAC and more. In addition to Samsung Hub, the device is pre-loaded with the ChatOn messaging service. Needless to mention, users can have access to the Android Market and various Google Mobile services. Its connectivity options cover Bluetooth, a USB 2.0 port and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0) release date and price have not been revealed.
