Seagate was last spotted entering the market with its easy-to-install Barracuda XT desktop drive. The company has now announced the availability of its GoFlex Slim portable 2.5-inch external hard drive. Designed with slim characteristics, this new miniscule offering claims to be an ideal travel buddy and can be slipped into a bag with ease.
Featuring a 7200RPM drive and USB3.0 interface, the drive transfers files quickly and boasts of compatibility with USB 2.0 ports. It also lends support to Windows and Mac computers while its enhanced backup software renders intuitive and uninterrupted backups as well as encrypts files and folders with ease.
“The continued growth of personal digital media stores, our increasingly mobile lifestyles and the continued proliferation of mobile devices are driving the demand for slimmer, more portable storage solutions,†commented Patrick Connolly, vice president and general manager of Retail at Seagate.
“Netbooks and slim laptops are great for consuming media, but are limited when it comes to creating and storing high–definition films and photos. The GoFlex Slim portable drive will also be up for grabs in a variant mainly carved out for Mac OS X computers. The GoFlex Slim for Mac portable drive is touted to be HFS+ formatted, offering compatibility with Apple Time Machine backup software. In addition, the GoFlex Slim for Mac drive flaunts a lustrous metallic finish which avoids undesired fingerprints and promises to withstand few knocks and bumps.
The 320GB GoFlex Slim drive is tagged at $99.99 (approx Rs. 4,405) and can be purchased from the official website in–store and at select online retailers. The 320GB GoFlex Slim drive for Mac will be available next month through Apple retail outlets nationwide for $99 (approx Rs. 4,361).
