Iomega has announced the global release of the next-generation eGo portable hard drive, Iomega eGo portable hard drive USB 2.0.

Flaunting off its stylish and a compact form, the latest storage product supports the broadest suite of bundled data protection software, including McAfee VirusScan Plus that boasts to be the market-leading anti-virus and anti-spyware software. The drive is even compatible with USB 2.0 connectivity for powering it from a laptop or desktop and bundles a “Y” cable that enables users to utilize two USB ports simultaneously to power the drive whenever required.

Supporting up to 500 GB of storage space, the portable hard drive shines in varied color hues, wherein users can choose the bright Ruby Red model that is available in 250GB, 320GB and 500GB capacities, the sparkling Silver model that comes in 320GB and the deep Midnight Blue model that has a storage capacity of 320GB.

Housed in an anodized aluminum shell a bit more than a half-inch thick, the new USB 2.0 eGo drive weighs 7 ounces and is based on the state-of-the-art 2.5-inch form factor. It also boasts the ability to withstand a drop of up to 51 inches through the company’s Drop Guard feature or up to 7 feet via Iomega’s Drop Guard Xtreme and black eGo Power Grip Belt.

In addition to McAfee software, the storage solution is also compatible with Iomega QuikProtect for simple scheduled file-level backup of data, EMC Retrospect Express or Express HD to take a backup of all the data along with applications and settings, and even MozyHome Online Backup that offers a convenient and free online backup service with 2GB of online capacity.

The next-generation of eGo portable hard drive supports Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP and Windows Vista as well as Mac OS X 10.4 or above for easy and convenient access of data.

The Iomega eGo portable hard drive USB 2.0 is available for purchase and is backed by three years of warranty. The 250GB Ruby Red eGo costs $84.99 (approx. Rs. 4,029) and the 320GB Ruby Red, Midnight Blue and Silver eGo models are priced at $94.99 (approx. Rs. 4,503), whereas the 500GB Ruby Red retails for $134.99 (approx. Rs. 6,399) and the 500GB BlackBelt eGo model has a retail price of $139.99 (approx. Rs. 6,636). The new Iomega BlackBelt portable hard drive 500GB USB 2.0 is slated to hit the markets for purchase by June 2009.
