Sandisk rolls out Cruzer USB drives for Federal Government employees

Sandisk Cruzer USB Data security has become the prime concern for everyone globally. Keeping this fact in mind, Sandisk recently announced Cruzer Enterprise secure USB flash drives that cater to the needs of government employees. These USB drives are certified under Military Standard 810-F environmental standards, and can also be used by the visually-impaired under Section 508 requirements.

The Cruzer USB drives are certified under Military Standard 810-F 506.4 and 512.4. The federal government expects that the IT devices should be designed according to some standards, preventing the loss of vital information in case the drive is exposed to liquid. It should be specially followed by military and health care settings which are more vulnerable to such situations.

“SanDisk has upgraded the Cruzer Enterprise product line to meet the needs of a much broader range of users. By reconfiguring the USB drive’s GUI, we increased the accessibility of important information technology to the visually-impaired. Additionally, the drive’s waterproof design is a perfect fit for health care professionals, soldiers and anyone else who needs to safeguard their critical data from harmful contact with liquid,” remarked Yariv Fishman, director of product marketing, enterprise solutions, SanDisk.

The Sandisk USB drives also follow Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, thus enabling people with disabilities to access federal agencies’ electronic and information technology. The company has reconfigured the Cruzer Enterprise’s (GUI) to boost accessibility for visually-impaired users. The devices now support screen reader software that restructures the Cruzer Enterprise’s GUI by means of text-to-speech representation or through a Braille output device.

The company also envisages implementing Common Access Card (CAC) and Personal Identity Verification (PIV) functionality on the flash drives in line with DoD and FIPS 201 standards, so as to provide data security. The USB drives are inclusive of FIPS (Federal Information Processing Standard) 140-2 Level 2 certification for encryption, a standard set by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The certification claims that the device meets NIST standards for design of the cryptographic module, for the strength of encryption algorithms and resistance to physical invasion.

The Cruzer enterprise drives can be centrally supervised by SanDisk’s Central Management and Control software (CMC). The software has been used by government agencies, healthcare organizations and enterprises since a long time. The CMC device agent is incorporated on a company-issued Cruzer Enterprise drive providing corporate IT departments and government agencies, superior control and flexibility over the lifecycle management of the device such as central back-up and restoring data, central usage tracking with detailed audit reports, and remote termination of lost drives and more.

The pricing and availability details of the USB drive are still under wraps.
