WD has announced the storage extension of the very popular My Book family of external hard drive with the latest 2 TB My Book family that includes My Book Studio Edition, My Book Mac Edition, My Book Home Edition and My Book Essential Edition models.
It is claimed to be the large available capacity in a single-drive system, allowing Mac and PC users to store and take backup of a huge amount of data and files.
“The popularity among consumers of high-definition video cameras, digital photography and digital music downloads means that users are filling up their computers with massive amounts of digital content as fast as they can click ‘save.’ As the volume and value of users digital content grows, backing up data on multiple CDs or DVDs becomes time consuming and inconvenient. At the same time, consumers are realizing the monetary and emotional value of content and need to back up their most important files. The My Book family, with its massive 2 TB capacity allows users to backup all their data in one easy step and keep it in one easily accessible place,” mentioned Jim Welsh, Senior Vice President and General Manager of WD’s Branded Products and Consumer Electronics Groups.
The elegant My Book family of external hard drives offers an environment-friendly design that ensures power-efficiency due to the available standby mode, SmartPower function to turn the drive on/off with a computer and Safe Shutdown to avoid power-down unless and until all the data has been written. The series supports Kensington Security Slot to attach the drive securely to the desk by using a Kensington lock kit (sold separately).
A capacity gauge is also included for users to check how much capacity is available on the drive. However, this feature is not supported on the My Book Essential Edition drive.
While the My Book Studio Edition bundles high speed FireWire 400/800, eSATA and USB 2.0 interface with a 5-year limited warranty, the My Book Mac Edition offers a USB 2.0 interface and a 1-year limited warranty. Both the editions are designed to meet the demands of creative professionals and video editors.
In the My Book Home Edition, users will find continuous backup software USB 2.0 interfaces, high-speed eSATA and FireWire 400. Backed by a 3-year limited warranty, it is developed keeping PC users in mind.
Coming to the My Book Essential Edition, it packs in USB 2.0 interface to effortlessly add data to home and office computers.
The My Book Studio Edition, My Book Home Edition and My Book Essential Edition 2 TB external hard drives are immediately available for purchase at select retail stores and online retailers. However, My Book Mac Edition 2 TB external drives are scheduled to hit the stores by next month. These external hard drives carry a price tag ranging from $329.99 (approx. Rs. 16,655) to $379.99 (approx. Rs. 19,180).
