Nokia E71 Review: A sleek and striking smartphone

Nokia E71 Phone

The enterprise class Nokia E71 phone we’re about to review, is currently one of the newest QWERTY keyboard devices introduced by the company. It claims to have been exclusively crafted for the corporate world. Nokia is certainly on a roll these days with a range of smartphones being introduced by the company. Just recently we witnessed a range of music phones launched by Nokia. So getting our hands on the company’s latest stylish E71 smartphone to review got us super excited.

This 4 keyboard design business device has a very sexy and slim form factor. With a basic fabrication like that of the E61 and E62, this handy device slims down significantly. The portable device boasts of an enhanced keypad along with a space bar and a shift key. Also, included is a Home key which is rather called as the menu key and includes a contact button and a messaging button. A much more solid device than its similar looking models, this awfully compact thing is quite in par with Samsung’s Blackjack 2 in terms of its dimensions.

The little giant, if we may call it so, has an incorporated speaker at the top. Including a microSD card slot on the left of the device, there’s also a data mini USB jack Nokia plug. Whereas, the right side of the handset displays volume buttons that efficiently controls its volume. Also included on the right-hand side are an integrated audio jack and a voice dialing system. On twirling the phone behind, we saw a 3.2 megapixel camera that boasts of an auto focus and Flash option.

One aspect of the device which we sincerely disapproved of was its highly coarse surface with a metal back. Every time we touched the phone our fingerprints could be seen on the surface making it look very smudgy. With the continuous fingerprint marks the phone’s surface appeared really bad. Besides that, the overall look of the phone seems great.

The Nokia E71 handset has a pleasing 2.36” QVGA resolution display with a resolution of about 320x 420 pixels, which exactly explains why there’s a lot more to the smartphone than how it looks. It includes an active standby screen which can be easily toggled using the left and right key. Next, up it also features the Application icons that include the camera, web, Bluetooth and the switch mode option.

Nokia E71 The ‘Mode switching’ feature comes across as a real fun inclusion. This option in the handset easily allows the phone to double up into a business and a personal one. Switching the modes to either of the two was a very simple and rapid process. It hardly took us a couple of seconds to switch to the required mode and the applications above also changed accordingly. This feature seemed extremely handy and quick.

This super-chic device flaunts WLAN connectivity along with the Search Internet and My Content feature. Also, when a message is received users can read the name of the sender without actually opening the message. Boasting of a spell-correction feature, this extremely cool device appeared to be a great option for messaging purposes. The music player includes a lot of assortments including the artist’s name, album name and other specifications. This handset is very strongly built and has a lot of capabilities including the GPS function.

In addition, the Solitaire is the only game included in the handset just like the Nokia E66. Other applications found were the WorldMate and the Sports tracker. Furthermore, with efficient emailing feature, this device helps easy usage of Google and Nokia maps. This Nokia creation adorns the Satellite acquisition feature along with 3D map and extremely speedy Wi-Fi connectivity. Lastly, the phone also amazed us with its YouTube flash feature which allowed decent viewing of the videos.

Downsides:

According to us, one major drawback is its metal back surface that easily gets dirty. Also, with the constant fingerprint marks on its highly coarse surface, the phone appears to be very smudgy.

In addition, the games included in the phone didn’t excite us at all. We think, Nokia could have added a few more better games to their handset.

Also, the phone’s keys appear to be a bit too congested. With this feature in hand, the phone hinders enhanced typing.

Lastly, we also think, the price of the phone could have been slightly lower than its actual price. This is mainly because users we think can now choose from varied options of smartphones available in the market which are less expensive.

Upsides:

Undoubtedly, the phone’s overall performance is something we would like to applaud. We enjoyed reviewing the phone as we didn’t face any complexity in terms of its connectivity or speed.

Furthermore the looks of the phone are awfully stunning. Its sleek form factor indeed does wonders for the overall presentation of the device.

The handset also seemed highly-approachable. It was pretty receptive with respect to its download speed or its mere internet connectivity. Browsing on the web through this user-friendly phone was much more fun than expected.

Overall we think Nokia E71 is one sleek and an impressive handset, matching up to the RIM’s BlackBerry devices. In equal measures, this is one great phone to consider with a price of around Rs.18, 000. We rate this one a respectable 8/10.
