Iomega has released its next generation double-drive desktop NAS appliance. This NAS server called the StorCenter ix2-200, can be setup in RAID 1 configuration for data protection. Unlike its successor, the ix2-200 does not offer an easy and fast way to replace the drives.

The StorCenter ix2-200 is based on the enterprise-class EMC storage technologies. The appliance offers support for Windows Active Directory. The front panel of this server flaunts a QuikTransfer button. The other features of the drive include device-to-device replication, iSCSI block-level access, multiple IP security camera support and VMware certification.

This device also incorporates a DLNA certified UPnP AV Media Server. It can also be substituted as a Time Machine target for Apple computer backups. The ix2-200 NAS also offers support for file sharing, Bluetooth as well as Cooliris slide show plug-in. It claims to provide data backup and protection for any number of desktops and laptops.

The latest StorCenter ix2-200 NAS server will be offered in 1GB, 2GB and 4GB models. The 1GB and 2GB models are now available while the 4GB model will be made available later this month in America and the Europe. The servers will cost $269.99 (approx. Rs. 12,560), $369.99 (approx. Rs. 17,210) and $699.99 (approx. Rs. 32,560), respectively.
