Boost Mobile to release Android-powered Samsung Galaxy Prevail

Samsung Prevail The last time we reported about news from Samsung, the company had a Gem of an offering for phone enthusiasts. Boost Mobile has announced the imminent launch of Samsung’s Galaxy Prevail on the Sprint network.

The Samsung Galaxy Prevail is powered by Android 2.2 or Froyo OS and boasts of a 3.2” touchscreen display. It jackets a 2MP camera with video recording capabilities for users wishing to capture and share those special moments. The device can be made to seamlessly switch between portrait or landscape mode depending on how it is held.

“We are excited to partner with Samsung to launch this innovative touchscreen phone for wireless users who are interested in upgrading to an Android experience without spending more on their monthly plan,” shared Andre Smith, vice president-Boost Mobile. “The Samsung Galaxy Prevail delivers the power of the Android platform to our customers’ fingertips while bringing tremendous value to our customers’ wallets.”

The basic features proffered by the handset include Bluetooth, GPS support, caller ID, speakerphone with voice-activated dialing and voice mail amongst others. It comes equipped with pre-installed apps such as Twidroyd, SCVNGR, Facebook, Poynt, Hookt, YouTube and ThinkFree Office. Additionally, users can easily access over 1,00,000 applications through the Android Market.

The Samsung Galaxy Prevail can be bought in late April from Boost Mobile’s retail stores or via their online website as well as select independent wireless dealer locations for $179.99 (approx Rs. 7,957). The phone will be clubbed with Boost Mobile’s $50 (approx Rs. 2,210) Monthly Unlimited plans. It is also slated to arrive at select retail outlets by mid-May.
