Vodafone turns eco-friendly with VF 247 solar powered phone

Someone put it right – ‘don’t blow it, good planets are hard to find’. Aligning with it, manufacturers from the mobile segment now seem to have guessed the right chord. Well, Vodafone has now unleashed the latest generation eco-friendly solar charging handset in India, the VF 247.

Designed to be eco-friendly, the new mobile device makes the most of a solar powered solution to benefit users in areas with adequate sunlight. With an extended solar powered battery, the VF 247 targets at plugging away the dilemma of unstable electricity supply in many rural areas. The device quite impressively charges by itself, by exposure of ambient light.

“Reflecting a strong commitment to the Indian market, Vodafone continues to launch affordable products and services to cater to the differentiated needs of consumers.” explained Marten Pieters, MD and CEO, Vodafone Essar Ltd. “Vodafone’s solar powered phone is launched for people residing in areas where electric supply is unstable, so that consumers can rely on solar charging to remain connected. This launch is likely to enable more people in rural India to go mobile and thus increase penetration from the current 20 percent. We will continue to invest to uplift the quality of telecom services and products in India.”

The new mobile phone from Vodafone comes equipped with Sun Boost, the special inbuilt hardware and software which ensures that the phone charges also in a room, under normal daylight. The VF 247 also features FM radio, color screen and a powerful torch light.

The simple yet powerful Vodafone VF 247 solar powered device is anticipated to roll out shortly. The pricing details are yet to receive an official word.
