Weston all set to enrich the market with affordable handsets

By offering contemporary features in a stylish yet affordable package, these new handsets will exhibit a fine balance between features and performance. Weston will now enter the ever-growing handset segment with its new and economical handsets. The company will first launch their phones in North and East of India, thereafter across the entire country.

The company plans to develop phones with R&D and design adopted from China. They will set up a new unit in Sela Que in Dehra Dun, Uttranchal with the capacity of five lakh GSM and CDMA cell phones per month, while the production is expected to begin in 2011. Until then, the company will gather handsets from OEM’s in China where quality control and system will be done under the Weston team.

“Our foray into the telecom vertical is in keeping with our vision to provide consumers with high quality products at unmatched prices by following a no-frills policy. Our vision is to introduce the most affordable handsets in India keeping in mind the features to price ratio,” remarked Sunil Vachani, Chairman and Managing Director, Weston Group.

The handsets will feature dual SIM, FM radio, 5.8cm TFT screen, double batteries and double flash card. The company aims to allure semi-urban and rural markets with high-quality handsets offering a wide array of interesting features. Besides the high-quality audio and video player, the phone will flaunt Java, Bluetooth, video chat and auto call record. The integrated answering machine will offer owners the benefit of Voice Mail Box without incurring additional cost charged by service providers.

The company will launch seven phones which will be tagged between Rs. 1,600 to Rs. 3,500. The handset will be backed by one year warranty.
