From the launch of Apple’s iPhone, the craze of touchscreen devices amongst tech enthusiasts is increasing. Hence many mobile phone manufacturing companies are coming up with devices, such as LG’s Viewty, HTC Touch, which incorporate touchscreen interfaces.

Following this new trend, even Samsung has announced to launch its multimedia touchscreen phone called SGH-F490. The phone’s design seems to be inspired by iPhone. The phone is as slim as 11.8mm.

Samsung’s new phone features a 3.2 inch and 16:9 wide full touch screen. The phone also incorporates a 5 megapixel camera, a standard 3.5mm audio jack. Users can also surf the Internet and download data.

Some of the other features of the SGH-F490 camera are:

  • Bluetooth 2.0
  • USB 2.0
  • Downloading speed of 3.6Mbps
  • 130 MB of internal memory
  • Additionally the phone offers easy controls while song playback. Users can quickly move left/right to rewind/fast forward and move up/down to adjust volume with help of the ‘Croix UI’, an iF Communication Design Award 2007 winning technology. It involves two bars that cross-hatch and allows all functions just by tapping and dragging.

“F490 is not only a powerful multimedia device but also a stylish fashion item with sleek and charming design. We are proud to introduce this new innovative multimedia handset to global consumers,” said Geesung Choi, President of Samsung’s Telecommunications Business.

Samsung’s SGH-F490 is available in the European market at the price of 530 euros (around Rs. 30,810) from late January onwards. Samsung has also announced that after the launch in Europe, the new phone will also be introduced in the US and Asian countries including Korea.
