Panasonic punches out the Toughbook 31 fully-rugged notebook computer

Panasonic smashes into the mobile computer market with a new robust notebook christened as the Toughbook 31. According to the company, the latest offering is noted to be the most powerful fully-rugged laptop PC to grace the market. Besides exuberating a tough appearance, it also houses an Intel Core i5 or i3 processor as well as a 1,100 nit touchscreen display.

Panasonic Toughbook 31 is bestowed with rugged certifications beyond MIL-STD-810G and IP65. The laptop is ideal for customers to gain enhanced data access and productivity in extreme conditions and environments. These include military personnel, first responders and field workers in energy, telecommunications and utilities.

Erik Reid, mobile client marketing director, Intel Corporation revealed, “The Toughbook 31 combines the best of three worlds – mobility, performance and ruggedness. This is achieved by combining the high performance of the Intel Core i5 and i3 Processor technology with the ruggedness of the Panasonic design which enables users to perform compute intensive applications in almost any kind of conditions.”

The sixth generation of flagship Toughbook clamshell notebooks also boasts of ATI Radeon HD 5650 card as well as a new hybrid cooling system for keeping the internal temperature low. True to its name, the Toughbook 31 can survive drops of up to six feet and is also IP65 rated for protection against dust and water.

The latest Panasonic Toughbook offering comprises of a 13.1 inch XGA LCD touchscreen and comes complete with Panasonic CircuLumin technology. It provides users with 11 hours of battery life and even charges up to 47% quicker when pitted against its predecessor namely the Toughbook 30.

The rugged device provides consumers with Bluetooth v2.1 +EDR, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n as well as option for WiMAX capability and Gobi2000 mobile broadband technology from Qualcomm. There is also an optional integrated webcam for transmitting video in real-time as well as various security features such as fingerprint reader and insertable SmartCard reader.

The Toughbook 31 from Panasonic drops into the U.S. bearing a price tag of $3,799 (approx. Rs.171,682) and backed with a full three-year limited warranty, parts and labor.
