It is nirvana for die-hard gamers with the technology industry racing to bring to life the 3Dgaming experience. Asus has come out with its G-series notebooks namely the G60 and G71GX. These mean machines are said to be the only 16” and 17” notebooks to incorporate the Creative EAX advanced HD 4.0 audio and Nvidia GeForce GTX 260M graphics for true-to-life 3D gaming action.

The G60 Republic of Gamers notebook boasts of a 16” 1366×768 resolution screen with NVIDIA GeForce GTX with 1GB of GDDR3 of graphics memory and Altec Lansing speakers. It comes with Windows Vista Home Premium that can be upgraded to Windows 7. Dual 320GD RAID configured for 640GD hard drives, DDRII 800 of 4GB memory, Intel Core2 Duo P8700 and 3MB on-die L2 cache, 2.53GHz, 1066MHz FSB are also on the list of its defining features. The back-lit ‘chiclet’ keyboard and illuminated instant gaming keys are designed to help dedicated gamers play under poor lighting conditions too. It has Blu-Ray for HD playback, a 2.0mega pixel webcam, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, 1GB of GDDR2 memory and Express Gate that helps to boot up in under 8 seconds.

The G60 performs 50% faster than the prior G Series notebooks and has a 3DMark06 score of above 10,000 as compared to the 2000-3000 score topped by other 16” notebooks. An integrated sound library with 64 bonus sound effects is compatible with more than 300 games for creating realistic audio spatial effects. Futuristic is the word for the 37.5 x 26.5 x 3.43~3.4cm chassis in pure glossy white and metallic details. The product weighs 3.4kg and comes with a gaming mouse and rucksack. It is priced at £1,449 inc. of VAT (approx. Rs.1,12,976).

The G71GX Republic of Gamers notebook features a 17” 1920×1200 resolution screen, Nvidia GeForce graphics, PhysX and Cuda support, Dolby Home Theater and Altec Lansing speakers, Intel Core2 Q9000 processor, 4GB DDRIII 1066MHz memory and Windows Vista Ultimate with an optional Windows 7 upgrade. The notebook has Blu-Ray for HD playback, a 2.0 megapixel webcam, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, 1GB of GDDR2 video memory and boots up within 8 seconds with Express Gate. There is Bluetooth v2.1 + EDR for improved battery life, E-SATA IEEE1394 FireWire 4 x USB to 2.0 VGA port, S/PDIF to headphone-out to mic-in. It comes with a separate numeric keypad, gaming mouse and rucksack. The notebook weighs in at 4kg and has dimensions of 41 x 30 x 4.2~5.1cm. The price tag reads at £1,849, inc. of VAT (approx.Rs.1,44,182).

The launch of this new series is probably just the first in the line of realistic 3D games-to-come.
