Asus delays Smartbook launch

Just last week we heard that Asus was planning to launch their Smartbook in the first quarter of next year. And now Ubergizmo reports that the company has delayed the launch of the Samrtbook until the second quarter of 2010.

Reportedly, the company hasn’t quoted any reason for this unexpected delay. Asus has also refrained from commenting about the availability of the Smartbook in the UK.

Apparently, Judy Wu, a market specialist working with Asus informed Register Hardware about the delay. Wu also commented that the emerging markets and Asia-Pacific region represent the biggest opportunities for smartbook sales.

The Smartbook is expected to measure between 5- and 7-inches. It may be powered by ARM instead of Intel’s Atom processor. The details about the operating system are also under wraps. But it is speculated that this Asus Smartbook will run on Android operating system.

The full specifications of the Smartbook are yet to be disclosed. There is no official word on the pricing of the Asus Smartbook either.
