Asustek Announces Low-Cost PCs

Asustek Logo Asustek Computer, a Taiwan-based company has announced the launch of its low-priced ultra mobile computer by next month.

Asustek has developed this tiny computer with Intel Corp and it incorporates a 7-inch screen. This new small computer will run on the Linux OS.

”It will be a laptop that’s easy to learn, easy to play and easy to work with; one targeting both the emerging and mature markets,” Chairman Asustek Jonney Shih.

Shih further said that more than 50 engineers at Asustek Taiwan and China were involved in the development of the low-price laptop.

Chuck Mulloy who is a spokesperson of Intel mentioned that this project is part of the company’s ”World Ahead” program. He also indicated that Intel plans to invest $1 billion in the project of delivering low cost comuter worldwide over five years.

Two models of the low priced computer will be launched. The standard model will be priced at $199, while the model having added features will be available at a price between $245 and $299.
