Wikipedia available in 15 languages through WikiReader handheld encyclopedia

Wikipedia doesn’t seem to miss out on waxing eloquent about any top under the sun. That’s probably what makes it such a popular site among web users. Apart from English, users of the Openmoko WikiReader portable encyclopedia can now access Wikipedia in Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Norwegian, Greek, French, Finnish, Danish, Dutch, German, Spanish, Welsh, Russian and Hungarian.

The device’s virtual keyboard is equipped with characters that support the 15 languages. Flaunting a three-button design, the gadget is attributed with a touchscreen and a rounded chassis. Users can save and browse through more than 3 million Wikipedia articles without the need for wires, internet or subscriptions. The reader runs on two long lasting AAA batteries and is cited to offer faster search capability.

Additionally, the Random button allows access to an array of interesting content that owners can indulge into. The Chinese version of the WikiReader boasts of 32MB storage capacity whereas the English Wikipedia integrates memory of up to 5GB. The memory capacity is expandable by up to 16GB through the microSD card slot.

The WikiReader is available with a 4GB microSD card through 180 BJ’s retail stores for $69 (approx. Rs. 3,220) across the U.S. The 8GB version of the reader can be purchased through Amazon as well as the company’s official portal for $99 (approx. Rs. 4,620).
