Garmin nuvi 1200 and 1300 Series of GPS Units Introduced at the CeBIT

Garmin introduces two new ranges of navigators, namely the nuvi 1200 and nuvi 1300 series at the CeBIT 2009. In both the series, the models include the nuvi 1300, 1350, 1350T, 1370T, 1390T, 1200, 1250 and the 1260T.

These ultra-thin navigators claim to offer navigation not only inside the car but also outside the car by providing pedestrian direction-assistance through the optional CityXplorer maps in both North America and Europe. In addition to free lifetime traffic alerts and lane assist, the two series carries attributes like text to speech technology and public transit mode via the optional CityXplorer content. Users can download the CityXplorer directly to the nuvi devices.

“Our nuvi devices are known for the great navigation experience they provide in the vehicle. Now our customers can have that same great experience when navigating an unfamiliar city by foot or public transportation,” stated Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “The nuvi 1200 and 1300 products allow us to meet the needs of that on-the-go customer by offering an affordable nuvi that provides location and destination information when, where, and how they need it most. The personal navigation device (PND) is no longer just for the car – take it with you wherever you go and enjoy the enhanced usability and rich features only a dedicated device like this can offer.”

Both the new multi-mode navigators come bundled with ecoRoute to provide efficient fuel-use navigation options to the drivers. This feature works with Fuel Report and Mileage Report that helps users to select “less fuel” that offers “faster time” and “shorter distance” for route preference.

Each model in the nuvi 1300 series has a screen size of 4.3-inch that boasts of touch support. While the nuvi 1300 packs in the coverage of the lower 48 states, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, the nuvi 1350 is preloaded with comprehensive coverage of North America. The nuvi 1370T includes mapping for North America and Europe for transatlantic travel. The 1350, 1350T and 1370T navigators come integrated with lane assist, whereas the 1390T adds junction to see realistic images of upcoming junctions.

The 1350T, 1370T and 1390T also employ Lifetime traffic alerts from NAVTEQ Traffic to guide clear of traffic accidents, road closures and construction, while the nuvi 1370T and 1390T have a traffic receiver to provide alerts in the coverage areas. The nuvi 1370T and 1390T even support Bluetooth hands-free connectivity.

Coming to the nuvi 1200 series, all the models feature a bright 3.5-inch touchscreen display. The nuvi 1200 carries coverage of the lower 48 states, Hawaii and Puerto Rico, whilst the nuvi 1250 and 1260T possesses comprehensive coverage of North America. The nuvi 1260T offers Bluetooth hands-free connectivity and lifetime traffic alerts from NAVTEQ Traffic.

Expected to roll out in Q2 2009, the price of the Garmin nuvi 1300 and 1200 series of navigators are $249.99 (approx. Rs. 12,886) for nuvi 1300, $299.99 (approx. Rs. 15,457) for nuvi 1350, $349.99 (approx. Rs. 18,033) for nuvi 1350T, $449.99 (approx. Rs. 23,180) for nuvi 1370T, $399.99 (approx. Rs. 20,604) for nuvi 1390T, $199.99 (approx. Rs. 10,302) for nuvi 1200, $249.99 (approx. Rs. 12,886) for nuvi 1250 and $299.99 (approx. Rs. 15,457) for nuvi 1260T.
