Samsung has either decided that ‘compact’ is the favorite word for slate enthusiasts or they’re trying to make some more space for the 8.9” Galaxy Tab. A Wi-Fi only version of the 7” Samsung Galaxy Tab will soon be pushed out through multiple retail stores and online sellers.

The slate may feel a bit behind times with the Froyo OS it runs when Honeycomb is being rolled out to a lot of Android devices. Those who fancy this Galaxy Tab anyway can expect to grab the tablet in its plain Wi-Fi edition for around $350. At any rate, the lower price point may be interesting to a lot of potential buyers.

“We are excited to have the Wi-Fi version of the Galaxy Tab join our growing portfolio of Galaxy-branded devices,” enthused Dale Sohn, President of Samsung Mobile. “The 7″ Galaxy Tab is the first truly mobile tablet on the market, allowing users to comfortably hold the device in one hand while typing or navigating the web with the other.”

Apart from running Android 2.2, the gadget shows off a 1,024 x 600p resolution touchscreen display and tips the scale at around 13oz. It supports Adobe Flash Player 10.1 as well as Google Goggles through the integrated 3MP camera. The 16GB of onboard memory can also be further expanded to 32GB if necessary.

Samsung plans to drop the Wi-Fi only variant of the Galaxy Tab onto shelves starting from April 10. It’s going to be stuck with a $349.99 (approx Rs. 15,425) price tag.
