Canon PowerShot S100 and SX40 HS incorporate DIGIC 5 image processor

Canon PowerShot S100 and SX40 HS CamerasExtending their range of point-and-shoot cameras, Canon has announced the arrival of the PowerShot S100 and SX40 HS models. Capable of performing optimally in dim spaces too, both cameras incorporate new DIGIC 5 image processor.

The integrated new image processor is believed to enhance camera operation, noise reduction and color accuracy. It provides advanced multi-area white balance to optimize color tones of the subject as well as the background under multiple light sources. It offers a host of features, one of which is the high-speed burst HQ that lets users shoot up to eight frames in a row. The cameras come with the company’s new Intelligent IS which automatically chooses from six varied modes namely, normal, macro, panning, dynamic, powered and tripod to deliver supposedly defined, blur-free images for various shooting conditions.

Yuichi Ishizuka, executive vice president and general manager, Imaging Technologies and Communications Group, Canon USA explained, “Photo enthusiasts are always on the search for that next great camera to help them achieve the best results. The inclusion of the new DIGIC 5 image processor and Full HD recording capabilities on both new models will provide users with the tools needed to capture brilliant images and videos as they continue their photographic journey.”

Embedded with a 3-inch LCD screen, the PowerShot S100 is an upgraded version of the S95 that released last year. It equips a 12.1MP CMOS image sensor along with a 24-120mm wide angle lens possessing 5x optical zoom. This new camera is integrated with the GPS functionality and employs an f/2.0 lens for maximizing its low-light performance. Furthermore, it accommodates the map utility software that allows users to view locations where photos were captured along with an in-built GPS logger to track the photographic route.

Featuring a 35x optical zoom range with image stabilizer, the PowerShot SX40 HS enables users to capture vivid photographs with its 12.1MP CMOS image sensor. The device embeds a 2.7-inch vari-angle LCD and comes with improved smart auto settings. Additionally, its zoom framing assist button aids users in steadying the camera while tracking a moving subject at extreme telephoto settings and maintaining focus.

The Canon PowerShot S100 as well as the SX40 HS are priced at $429.99 (approx. Rs. 20,405) each. While the former would be available from early November, the latter is set to retail later this month.
