Olympus mTough 6020

Camera buffs ought to flash a smile in Olympus’ direction. We barely finished reporting their SP-800UZ and Pen E-PL1 cameras before the company pulls out yet another camera to look over. Olympus has now slipped the covers off their µTough-6020 digital camera that is touted to be waterproof, shockproof and freezeproof.

The camera is attributed with a 14MP CCD that offers dual Image Stabilization and 5 x zoom. It is waterproof up to a depth of 5 meters, shockproof against falls as high as 1.5 meters and freezeproof at temperatures of -10°C too. It has onboard memory of 2GB and a 2.7” HyperCrystal III for Tough Series LCD. Videos are recorded in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 formats on an SD/SDHC card.

µTough-6020 integrates a 28mm wide-angle lens and features the company’s proprietary [ib] software. USB battery charging allows the battery to be recharged via a PC while recorded data is being stored and organized on the PC. Its Sliding lock secures the lid so that it doesn’t open easily. Other properties consist of iAUTO, Face Detection AF, Magic Filter effects, Shadow Adjustment technology, AF Tracking, Macro LED and so on.

Olympus’ µTough-6020 digital camera will be available in the colors pink blue and green by the end of February 2010.
