Sony unveils new addition to A series of DSLR cameras

Sony DSLR-A850 Camera

Sony has introduced the DSLR-A850 camera, a new addition to Sony’s alpha range of cameras. Previously, Sony had launched three entry-level alpha series cameras. Along with the DSLR camera, Sony has also introduced a new 28-75mm F2.8 lens. Most of the features of this newly launched camera are similar to the DSLR-A900 camera.

The A850 camera features a 24.6 megapixel, 35mm full frame Exmor CMOS sensor that promises to deliver ultra-fine picture quality. The dual BIONZ processing engines process the images at breath-taking speed. The camera also offers the option to record high-speed continuous shooting at a speed of approximately three frames per second.

This camera incorporates an intelligent preview function that processes and displays an image on the screen before clicking it. These preview images are not recorded on the camera’s memory card. The camera can easily and efficiently track moving subjects with the help of nine sensors and 10 assist points. It also incorporates various sensors that deliver greater accuracy while using fast-aperture lenses.

“Sony is bringing the benefits of a full-frame digital SLR camera to a broader group of consumers,” said Kristen Elder, director of the Digital Imaging business at Sony Electronics. “The α850 strengthens Sony’s alpha DSLR line, which now offers models in each step from high-end professional down to the amateur enthusiast.”

The ultra-bright viewfinder that claims to cover 98 percent of the field view coupled with the 0.74x magnification assists in accurate framing and preview. The A850 includes the SteadyShot Inside image stabilization technology that provides the anti-shake effect. This anti-shake effect is compatible with all Sony, Minolta and Konica-Minolta compatible lenses even wide angle or large aperture lenses.

The other notable features of the DSLR-A850 include Dynamic Range Optimizer, HDMI output, Photo TV HD mode and 3-inch Xtra Fine LCD screen. The camera is compatible with Memory Stick PRO Duo, Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo, HX series and CompactFlash media memory cards. It also supports the new SAL2875 28-75mm F2.8 SAM lens.

The DSLR-A850 camera will be made available starting from September this year and will be priced at $2000 (approx. Rs. 97,070). The camera also bundles up all the related accessories. The accessories of the A900 offer compatibility with the A850. The SAL2875lens will be made available in November at a price of $800 (approx. Rs. 38,828).
