In addition to the ability to withstand the harshest environments, both the cameras feature Tap Control that allows users to easily control key settings without removing gloves while skiing or driving in snowfall.

Based on the Olympus Stylus SW Series, the new tough-series cameras come integrated with Dual Image Stabilization, combining two technologies – mechanical Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization and Digital Image Stabilization that provide powerful anti-blur solution. While the Sensor-Shift Image Stabilization keeps images sharp even in low-light conditions when shutter speeds are slower, the Digital Image Stabilization ensures the ability to freeze the action with high ISO sensitivity and enhance shutter speeds for no-blur images.

The Stylus Tough-8000 sports features like an impressive 12 million pixels of image resolution, resistance power up to 6.6-foot drop, venture 33 feet underwater and nearly 220 pounds of crushing pressure and combat the freezing cold (14 degrees Fahrenheit; -10 degrees Celsius). It comes integrated with manometer that shows the depth of where the images were captured. Users can also take videos underwater through the included underwater movie mode.

The 10-megapixel Stylus Tough-6000 can withstand drop from 5 feet, dive to 10 feet below the surface and beat the freezing cold (14 degrees Fahrenheit; -10 degrees Celsius). It comes with a built-in four preset underwater scene modes to vibrant picture capturing.

Both the cameras feature lightweight, stainless steel and aluminum exteriors with interior rubber gaskets and O-rings, and a water-repellant lens coating.

The Touch-series camera also incorporates the new “OR” button for access functions such as Face Detection, Intelligent Auto Mode, In-Camera Panorama, Shadow Adjustment and Perfect Shot Preview. The included 3D accelerometer detects the direction of the force on the camera’s body to view the images accordingly. The other features include a 3.6x wide-angle optical zoom (28-102mm equivalent in 35mm photography, f3.5-5.0), a 2.7-inch display with Olympus’ HyperCrystal III LCD technology, support xD-Picture Card media and microSD memory cards.

Furthermore, the cameras come equipped with Red-Eye Fix, in-camera editing function, an LED Illuminator for a mini-flashlight, Olympus’ enhanced TruePic III Image Processor for crystal-clear photos, and a direct link to upload images and videos to YouTube.

The Olympus Stylus Tough-8000 offers internal charging, using an AC adapter. It carries a price tag of $399.99 (approx. Rs. 19,565) and will be available in February. The Stylus Tough-6000 camera is slated to be available in January for a suggested price of $299.99 (approx. Rs. 14,675).
