With an aim to offer the best in performance, Lenovo has announced the launch of its two new workstations, namely ThinkStation S20 and D20, for specialized professionals who are in the fields of computer-aided design, digital content creation and oil and gas.

The main highlight of the latest ThinkStations is the Lenovo eLounge – a first-of-its-kind e-commerce platform – that offers virtual computing solutions online in an interactive way. This feature is built on the Unreal Engine from Epic Games and powered by a ThinkStation D Series workstation. With an avatar, users can enter the virtual world from anywhere with an Internet connection to browse the product showcase and converse directly with Lenovo sales representatives.

“Designers, engineers, developers and scientists require the highest levels in computing performance to help them produce breakthrough innovations. The new ThinkStation workstations deliver not only the utmost in performance, but also a user-centric design with an emphasis on quiet operation, even during heavy processing,” remarked Tom Tobul, executive director, Enterprise, Software and Peripherals, Lenovo.

Another essential attribute of the systems is the Turbo-charged performance that assures personal supercomputing experience, allowing users to innovate more rapidly and decrease the time between an idea and a product.

Besides, the incorporation of the NVIDIA Tesla C1060 GPU platform claims to provide 240 supplementary cores of dedicated math processing power that increase the speed of calculations.

Some of the other features of the ThinkStation S20 and D20 include a preloaded Windows Vista OS with support for RedHat Enterprise Linux 5.2, ThinkVantage Technologies for assistance in tasks such as data recovery and data migration, as well as certifications from leading independent software vendors to help ensure compatibility between workstations and major applications.

Furthermore, users get to choose from the latest Intel Xeon processors 5500 and W3500 Series, promising to deliver increased efficiency and performance with optional Intel Turbo Boost technology for extra performance during peak processing. Lenovo also provides an option to select either the latest NVIDIA Quadro line of professional graphics cards or ATI FirePro graphics.

In addition to it’s high-end specifications, Lenovo’s ThinkStation S20 and D20 workstations comply with the Energy Star 5.0 criteria and are GREENGUARD certified. It is stated that the ThinkStation D20 workstation uses practically 30 % of the recycled content from post consumer recycled content that weighs as much as 19 plastic drinking water bottles.

The Lenovo ThinkStation S20 and D20 workstations are slated to roll out by early Q1 2009 through business partners and Lenovo website for a suggested price of $1,070 (approx. Rs. 54,165) and $1,550 (approx. Rs. 78,460), respectively.
