BD390 Blu-ray Player

DivX and LG have come together to launch what is claimed to be the worlds first high definition Blu-ray player dubbed BD390. The device enables users to play their favorite DivX videos on the TV. This high definition player is capable of playing 1080p video files.

This device was basically developed to the meet the growing consumer demand for playback of HD DivX content. The BD390 can playback up to 1080p HD video stored on a DVD or a USB flash drive. Users can also playback content directly from a network with the help of a DLNA server.

“LG is heralding a new direction for the Blu-ray industry with the full-feature high-end BD390 and incorporating support for DivX HD 1080p video is a key product differentiator. With playback for DivX HD, the LG BD390 provides an expanded full HD viewing experience,” said Simon Kang, CEO and President of LG Home Entertainment Company.

“LG is a market leader and an award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, and we are thrilled to work with them to provide the first LG BD player that is DivX Certified(R) for 1080p HD playback,” said Kevin Hell, Chief Executive Officer, DivX, Inc. “The LG BD30 makes it easier than ever for consumers to playback their library of DivX HD content burned to DVD, stored on USB flash drives or streamed directly into the living room.”

Where normal HD files require huge storage space the DivX content offers similar video quality in considerably smaller file sizes. Thus, helps reduce the space required to store these files. Users can store approximately two hours of HD video on an 8GB memory card.

This DivX certified player is presently available in the U.S. and Europe. Its price still remains under wraps.
