Samsung Galaxy i7500 available via O2

Samsung Galaxy Handset Here’s an official announcement that the Samsung Galaxy i7500 smartphone will now be exclusively available via O2.

The Galaxy is Samsung’s first Android-based device. It promises to incorporate applications to meet every need. The large memory allows users to personalize their handsets with various applications and games. These applications can be downloaded for free from the Android Market.

We’ve built in all the features people have come to expect from high-end Samsung devices, like the AMOLED screen and fast processing power, to provide a great user experience,” said Mark Mitchinson, VP, Samsung Mobile UK. “We’re fortunate to have the technical ability at Samsung to support a variety of operating systems and demonstrate real leadership in developing the technologies that customers want and understand.”

The Android Market offers a host of fun and useful applications like Shop Savvy that allows users to scan barcodes and compare prices online. It also includes games like Lightsaber and the traditional Paceman with a twist. The handset also supports Google services like Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail and Google Talk. The integrated GPS receiver assists in taking full advantage of these services.

“O2 has become the home of smartphones and launching our first Android-powered phone with Samsung is a key part of this,” said Steve Alder, General Manager Devices, Telefónica Europe. “What I love about the Samsung Galaxy is the great user experience and the fantastic range of apps it brings to even more customers.”

On the specs front, the Galaxy i7500 incorporates a 3.2-inch HVGA, AMOLED display that flaunts a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels. Measuring 115mm x 56mm x 11.9mm, this smartphone features 8GB of internal memory that can be expanded via a 32GB microSD card. The handset supports video formats like MPEG4, H.263, H.264, WMV along with audio formats like MP3, AAC, AAC+, e-AAC+, WMA, RA. It however eliminates the FM radio. The 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and Power LED promises to provide clear and blur-free images. The connectivity options of this handset include Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0, WiFi and MicroUSB.

With its powerful battery and higher memory capacity, the Samsung Galaxy i7500will be made available in UK exclusively via O2 for 4 weeks from August 31. O2 is offering the smartphone free of cost on a £45 (approx. Rs. 3,592) monthly tariff.
