Low-cost laptops is a new trend these days to increase the amount of target audience. Similarly, in the lines of Asus and One Laptop Per Child Foundation, British manufacturer Elonex has also introduced its latest laptop, called the One, which comes with a price tag of £99. This ultra-portable Elonex One will be offered in the UK.

Developed for education segment, the One features 1GB of flash memory, a Wi-Fi adapter, a detachable rubberised keyboard to use as tablet and a 7-inch TFT touchscreen.

Powered by Linux OS, it comes with a word processor, spreadsheet, internet browser, photo editor and even an email client. Weighing 2.2lbs, it also sports a flash-based hard drive, a hard-wearing case and wireless music server.

“The One removes the cost barrier that has prevented the one-laptop-per-person, large-scale uptake of computers in the education system that has for so long been ust a pipe-dream. Investment in digital technology is paramount to help the next generation achieve their full potential,” explained Sam Goult, marketing manager at Elonex.

Expected to roll out on 28th February at the 2008 Education Show in Birmingham, Elonex’s One laptop provides a battery life of three hours in a single charge. If you want to buy a 2GB version with Bluetooth, you need to shell out £120.
