Sony Bravia Z5500 and HT-CT500 System

Create a complete home entertainment experience with the latest Sony Bravia television, called the Bravia Z5500, and the bundled HT-CT500 home theatre system.

Resting in a sleek and stylish design, the TV expands the Motionflow 200Hz family and offers the smoothest motion and sharpest Bravia picture ever. It is available in three screen sizes such as 40-inch, 46-inch and 52-inch.

The set-up box highlights a fashionable form factor fused with a range of cutting-edge TV technologies like Motionflow 200Hz and Image Blur Reduction. The former technology calculates three additional frames for every original, boosting the frame rate from 50 to 200 per second. Plus, the latter feature augments the moving-images by cleaning the original frame before there is a replacement of a new frame, resulting in sharper picture quality with reduced motion blur.

Moreover, the elegant TV is based on the Bravia Engine 3 technology to enhance the Sony HD picture by sharply analyzing and optimizing video signals from any HD or SD source. In addition to superior picture details, contrast and color reproduction, users will also appreciate the incredibly vivid and lifelike colors through the accompanied Live Colour Creation.

“The unique blend of advanced technology and leading design showcased in the BRAVIA Z5500 means that you can enjoy crystal-clear, amazingly smooth fast-moving images with Motionflow 200Hz, along with atmospheric sound from the HT-CT500 home theatre speaker”, remarked Hiroshi Sakamoto, Vice President, TV Marketing Europe. “We design our TVs to ensure that they contain the latest features and advanced technology, bringing the real world to your living room for a truly realistic and immersive viewing experience, without any compromise to look and feel.”

Further, this DLNA certified Bravia television supports CI Plus interface for greater security for broadcasters, a built-in MPEG 4 AVC HD tuner and an integrated Ethernet port to seamlessly sync with other DLNA enabled devices within the home. All the controls and functions can be accessed by using a Bravia remote control and the Bravia sync technology.

Users can even access a variety of online services directly from the Z5500, thanks to the AppliCast. Other than that, they can even display RSS feeds from international news, share prices, weather forecasts, horoscopes, celebrity and gossip amongst others. It even supports the easy-to-understand XMB (XrossMediaBar) on-screen interface that provides a choice of handy widgets.

Claiming to consume 25 to 35% less power over 2008 models, it comes with a host of eco-aware features that include an auto shut-off function that automatically shifts to standby mode (less than 0.19W) after a certain period of no-usage time, an integrated light sensor that adjusts backlight brightness and an optional power saving mode that reduces backlight illumination levels.

There is also an Idle TV mode that acts like a PC screensaver to use less energy and switch to a standby mode, and the PC Power Management mode that sets to standby mode if no signal is received. The Energy Saving Switch is embedded as well, for power-saving purposes.

What’s more, the Z5500 is complimentarily paired with the new HT-CT500 home theatre system for a truly immersive Full HD home entertainment experience. It is outfitted with an unobtrusive design and offers dynamic surround sound. Based on the new Graphical User Interface, it enables a simple operation of the volume control, input selector and other settings. According to the press release, the subwoofer can be hidden away and the included 3.1 channel speaker system claims to provide 400W of total power. The HT-CT500 is equipped with an additional three HDMI inputs and S-Force PRO Front Surround technology for an unbelievable theatre-like experience.

Additionally, it can be placed as a free-standing system on the shelf below any Bravia TV series. Users can even choose to wall-mount the Bravia TV or place it on a table-top with the stand-alone speaker bar.

The missing aspects of the Sony Bravia Z5500 TV and HT-CT500 home theater system are the pricing and availability details.

Note that the soundbar CANNOT be attached to the KDL-52Z5500 – Sony need to provide an alternative adapter first (dunno whether they are willing to do so).

Addendum: you can attach the soundbar, but the connector needs to be modified slightly. I managed to do this with the agreement of Sony.
